Among the variety of attractions are museums, local sports and recreation. Donalda and Big Valley are only a hop away, offering great photo opportunities such as the World’s Largest Lamp, Willow Canyon in Donalda, the Jimmy Jock Boardwalk and St. Edmund’s Blue Church in Big Valley.

A highlight is Alberta Prairie Steam Excursions, offering a one-of-a-kind experience as you meander your way to Big Valley aboard a restored locomotive circa 1920-1958.

In addition to a variety of annual events, local rodeos get you up close and personal to the action, or relax and get back to nature at Buffalo Lake. Local beaches, and opportunities for birding, hiking and fishing are abundant. Get ready to experience some close encounters with local wildlife during your travels!

For anglers, let the world slip away – just not the fish – at some 60 locally stocked ponds! Whether an amateur or a seasoned enthusiast, find the experience you’re looking for as you angle for rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout… and even tiger trout.

History buffs will love Alberta’s fifth largest pioneer village, the Stettler Town and Country Museum, with assorted buildings such as the 1903 Content School, the 1910 Courthouse, the 1908 Lakeview Church and the 1910 Harness Shop.

• Discover some great local events in Stettler: For 40 years the Stettler Trade Show has offered one-stop shopping with family fun for a fair price!

The Taste of the Heartland is a unique three-part experience hosted by the Stettler Regional Board of Trade and Community Development. The day-long event begins with a Farm to Fork VIP Bus Tour of four local farms where participants get to see farm life up close and personal before enjoying a farm fresh lunch in a scenic rural setting at one of the participating farms. At the conclusion of the tour in mid-afternoon, everyone will have a chance to relax and change their attire in time to enjoy the long-table dinner to be held on Stettler’s historic Main Street.

• The Stettler Pheasant Festival offers half-day hunting opportunities, along with a beginner hunt, hands-on interactive learning sessions and at the end of the day 300 hens are released for conservation.

Stettler enjoys a warm, dry summer and cold winters.

Getting Here

From Calgary, drive north about 2 hours and 17 min via AB-2 N. From Red Deer, drive east about one hour via AB-11. To visit from Edmonton, travel south about two hours via AB-21 S.
