It was a revved up Saturday morning in Stettler as bike members rode around town and participated in the Show and Shine event on May 7, gathering after at the Auto Detailing parking lot.

The occasion was a barbecue fundraiser by donation to get community members to contribute.

"We are hosting this to show solidarity with one of our friends who is suffering from leukemia," said Derek Wiebe, event organizer. "There's a lot of bad stuff out there, so it is important to do good and give back to the community."

Wiebe said that if there was any food left he would be more than willing to invite the Fort McMurray families in town and host a barbecue for them.

"Stettler is a great town and I think we need to be there for each other and support each other, especially when things are not so good," added Wiebe. "This is our second year, but we are more organized than our last Show and Shine."

Although Wiebe had planned to charge a $10 entry fee for the Show and Shine event, he waived it off and had top three prizes for all the Show and Shine entries.

"As much as I want people to donate, am here mostly to get people to get together and hang out," said Wiebe.

Clay McCann, one of the riders, said, "Anytime we can show support to the community, it's a positive thing, so here we are 30-40 of us with our bikes."

McCann said that he had been a missionary in Mexico and started riding bikes in 1971 and the one he was riding at the moment was fully customized.

McCann said that although there were events in town for the forest fires in Fort McMurray, Stettler had a wonderful and giving community and always came together to show support.
