The Stettler County was a busy facility on Thursday morning, April 14 as various municipalities located within the boundaries of the County of Stettler came together to participate in an emergency drill exercise.

Participating municipalities included the County of Stettler, Town of Stettler, the villages of Donalda, Big Valley, Botha and Gadsby and the summer villages of White Sands and Rochon Sands.

According to the county, the purpose of the exercise was to test the emergency response plan and its practicality in a scenario prepared by an outside agency.

"I'm personally very pleased with the outcome of the exercise, and understand that having the most qualified people available in the right positions is a key element of ensuring an appropriate response to any incident," said Terry Best, Deputy Director of Emergency Management and Risk Control Advisor. "I believe we have very qualified and dedicated people to plug into those positions."

According to Best, in terms of available equipment the County of Stettler is in a good position to respond to the immediate needs of any incident which may occur.

"Added to this is the knowledge that if additional equipment is needed it is available from a variety of sources through Mutual Aid Agreements or from the Alberta Emergency Management Agency at the Provincial level right down to local citizens who would offer their assistance," added Best.
