A jewelry workshop provided an afternoon of fun and creativity for a small group of people who attended a workshop at Beaute Decor on Saturday, May 14.

Run by Adele Poratto, the afternoon featured jewelry-maker Amanda Ankuyi, a missionary who lives in Accra, Ghana. She has been training, consulting and coaching young women in Accra to make jewelry and other handcrafts to further their artisan business.

Ankuyi talked about her work in Ghana, and helped the women make their own necklaces, similar to those that the women she helps in Africa, make. The participants of the day got to take home their work.

"I had a small turnout," Poratto said, noting that a funeral ended up taking away some of the people who registered for the day. "It was only my second event, but I had a lot of interest. A lot of people couldn't go because of alternative events."

Saturday was a busy day, with the Kinsmen Radio Days, Church Mice Art Show, and Big Valley's Bust-out Rodeo all taking place.
