CHRIST KING CATHOLIC SCHOOL -- It’s been a very busy week for Christ King once again as students have finished yet another week filled with fun events, such as the annual Terry Fox Run and Orange Day.

On Sept. 21, the Christ King Chargers faced off against Donalda in volleyball. Although neither the boys or girls team took a win, they had a lot of fun in their second game of the season. Both coaches say that the teams are improving in their teamwork, communication on the court and their confidence is growing.

Christ King had their annual Terry Fox Run on Sept. 29, where Kindergarten to Grade 9 students ran around the school’s big soccer field in remembrance of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Students were also given a sticker to fill out that they could put the name of someone else that they would like to run for. They then stuck them on their shirts to show when they were running. At the end of their laps, students were given yogurt tubes, donated by Parent Council, for a snack. Tim Horton’s also donated cookies for each student. A huge thank you goes to the Patel family for their generous donation. In total, Christ King raised more than $1,800 in support of cancer research. A big thank you goes to Mrs. Barnes, who organized the event this year.

Orange Day was hosted by Christ King’s Spirit Squad on Sept. 30, which was the school’s first Spirit Day ever for the 2016-17 school year. People were encouraged to wear orange to school in order to celebrate the Native American people of Canada. Spirit Squad leaders had originally announced that Friday would be Blue and Yellow Day in honour of Christ King, but after hearing of the second annual National Orange Day, they made the decision to switch the event. Members of Spirit Squad went around each classroom to take pictures and to see which class was the most enthusiastic in their participation. The class with the most students, teachers, and TAs wearing orange was awarded the Spirit Day Trophy. Mrs. Bohn’s Grade 1 class took the win and are currently displaying the trophy in their classroom until the next Spirit Day Event.

This week, parents are students are reminded that there is no school on Friday, Oct. 7.
