The 26th annual Heartland Quilters quilt show on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, brought in the crowds to the Stettler Legion hall to see the myriad number of quilts on display.

The quilts are made not only by the guild, but by anyone from the town or county of Stettler who wishes to submit a quilt for the showing, Letty Docherty, a guild member, said.

The group has been busy lately, as it has been working on quilts for some firefighters from Fort McMurray. Those firefighters’ homes burned down while they worked to save the homes of others in the community.

When evacuees from Fort McMurray ended up in Stettler, the group also gave the stressing, weary guests comfort quilts to help ease the trauma experienced in the sudden wildfire in May, Docherty said.

The group served up treats, coffee, tea and juice as part of the entry fee, and had more than 115 quilts on display.
