There has been an increase in the number of instances where authorities have been notified of big game meat being abandoned in the ditch, according to district fish and wildlife officials.

"We had another wasted deer carcass show up along with a cooler full of meat and I'm hoping that someone may be able to identify the cooler," said Scott Kallweit, district fish and wildlife officer. "There was an abandoned, small-antlered, white-tail deer carcass that had been field dressed and there was no meat taken off it, and officers were able to determine it had been shot."

On Saturday, April 16 Stettler RCMP were notified of a dumped deer carcass along with a white and blue cooler of meat.

"They were dumped on the east side of the ditch on King Street in Stettler, just south of the transfer station," added Kallweit. "We believe that they had been dumped within a couple of days of them being found, along with a blue and white Coleman PolyLite48 cooler filled with butchered meat, unknown of what type of animal."
