William E Hay Grade 10 student, Monica Gendre has qualified to wrestle at the ASAA Provincial Championships this Friday and Saturday.
She qualified with a silver medal performance at the rural provincial championships held in Lethbridge on the Feb. 25 and 26, according to Wm E Hay wrestling coach Brian Matchett.
She has been wrestling since Grade 7 and is one of the top 15 - 57kg girls in the province.
“Although she has had to battle some injuries recently, I am very confident that she can finish in the top three this weekend,” said coach Matchett.
Erskine students Tyler and Justin Matchett also wrestled at the North Elementary Wrestling Festival in Sherwood Park last weekend with Tyler winning a gold medal with a 3-0 record in the Grade 5-6 38 kg. class.
Justin won a bronze medal with a 2-1 record in the Grade 3-4 37 kg class.
