Weekend tournament ends with medal success for local badminton players

Hitting back hard - Jordan Bauman hits back after a hard serve during last weekend’s badminton tournament which saw action in all three gyms of of the Clearview school complex.

Local badminton players achieved great successes over the weekend when more than 100 players converged in Stettler for a big tournament.

Kristy Wade won three gold medals in U19 girls category, one for singles, one for doubles and one for mixed while James Langford won two golds and a silver in U19 boys category.

Woody Brown also won a silver medal as Langford’s partner in U19 doubles final.

Stettler Junior Badminton Club members Tatyana Henderson of Red Deer won silver in U16 girls singles and one in doubles with another club member and teammate Alyssa Ball of Castor.

Brett Samson of Trochu, also a Stettler club member, won two bronze medals, one in U19 boys singles and the other in doubles with local club player Cole Nichols.

John Langford won two golds in U14 boys singles and in doubles with local partner Kyle Poapst.

Other competitors from the local club were Destiny Croker, Micah Croker, Chad Mailer, Josh Nichols, Trent Sanders, Aerol Acera, Garrett Moir, Jordan Bauman, Tyler Wells in U16 categories and Cassidy Nichols, Logan Foesier-Sandberg, Kurt George, Eric Pitzel, Adam Pitzel, Ryland Stefanik, in U14 categories.
