A strong hit - Senior girl Wildcats had a strong showing against Innisfail last week in Erskine.

Wildcat senior volleyball teams were in action last week bringing home mixed results with all coaches predicting swift improvement in their teams’ performances.

The senior boys’ team had their season opener in Wetaskiwin on Tuesday, Sept. 22 with a three- straight-sets win over the home side.

In the first set, Dylan McKay and Brad Lawlor came out with strong hits from power and Joey Poapst had good movement on the court and put up good sets to win it 25-15.

In the second, strong serves from Tyler Bissett, good communication though the entire team and strong middle hits from Matt Blouin led to the second set victory, 25-16.

The third set began with a strong effort from the home side to cling to the game and the Wildcat boys fell behind 9-1. But rallying from the deficit, Wildcat boys managed to win the third set 25-18 with some strong defence and powerful hits.

Senior girls for their part lost to Wetaskiwin in three sets 25-27, 22-25 and 17-25.

But they won against Innisfail in their home game played in Erskine in straight sets 25-20, 25-17 and 25-23.

Wm E. Hay’s Grade 9 girls’ volleyball team started their action with a home series with Erskine on Wednesday, Sept 23 and won all three of their games.

Coach Audra Lotoski said she was pleased with strong effort from all the players despite a few injuries.

“ I’m looking forward to an excellent season,” she said.
