Stettler’s soccer clubs have had a fantastic season!
The U11 Girls team, the U11 Combined team, and one of the two U11 Boys teams fielded this season all brought home gold medals from league championship play at the end of June in Bentley.
Additionally, a second U11 Boys team won bronze.
The older boys did good as well, with the U17/U19 Boys team winning gold in the Central Alberta Soccer Association league while the U17 Boys team brought home a bronze medal from provincial play in early July.
The U13 Girls finished second in Central Alberta Soccer Association standings, while the older girls were well represented as well, with the U17 team dominating play at the provincial level and becoming provincial champions.
“We’re so proud of you,” said Mayor Sean Nolls to the team during the July 19 council meeting.
The U17 team had been invited to council to celebrate their win as a part of council’s policy to celebrate local teams that win at provincial or higher levels of play.
“You should be really proud of yourselves,” continued Nolls.
Coach Brad Robbins agreed that the team had an “amazing season.”
According to Robbins, the team only suffered one loss during the season and another loss during the playoffs before ultimately winning the league championship with a score of 3-0.
“This is a group that definitely works hard,” said Robbins.
The provincial tournament was held in Camrose over the weekend of July 8-10.
