Tournament will reignite minor hockey excitement this weekend

Minor hockey action returns to town with a major weekend tournament beginning on Friday, with Stettler’s midget teams hosting several teams from the area.

Having renewed the confidence in his team, coach Steven Leacock for the CSI midget Storm says he is looking forward to the tournament.

Leacock said he was particularly happy with his team’s 6-0 win over Sylvan Lake midgets on Sunday, following their first loss of the regular season to Red Deer’s Better Bodies just prior to Christmas break.

“It was a good team effort after a long Christmas break,” Leacock said.

“The boys played a good game playing strong at both ends of the ice.”

Goals were scored by Tanner Duncan, Parker Cassidy, Nick Nelson, two each, and Taylor Woelk complemented with a strong defensive effort and Quaid Anderson got his first shutout of the year.

“We should be having a fun weekend,” said Leacock.

Coinciding with the tournament., all Stettler minor hockey teams, with the exception of the bantam B Storm, are playing road games this weekend with the bantams hosting Olds at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the red rink.
