Stettler Rugby Wildcats won silver at the provincials in Calgary June 8-9.

Coach Ron Silva said the team was happy to win second place but it was a heart breaking loss after going undefeated all season.

“The Wildcats were unbeaten until the final game played with Taber with a hard fought game of the so called ‘clash against the Giants,’” said Silva.

The Wildcats consists of 32 athletes who attend Wm. E. Hay Stettler Campus. The captains are Emily Brown, Rachael Deaver and Tianna Kirtley.

Taber led the points table on the first half with 22 to 5 but the girls fought back coming with a back-to-back score of 46-22 in favour of Taber.

“The success of the Wildcats team has often been attributed to their attitude, hard work and determination towards the game and a great leadership by senior girls,” said Silva. “The Wildcats are first in the conference, with an undefeated record with league championship win with Rimbey and a tournament in Red Deer.”
