Stettler’s U14 Savages played a spirited game to beat Drumheller 13-4 on Wednesday, May 18 in Stettler.

With Brooke Mulgrove getting a triple, Madison McCrindle and Alandra Couch a double, the Stettler pitchers also did a great job swinging the game in Stettler’s favour.

“Each and every girl had a great time at bat, with Brooke Mulgrove pitching three innings and Faith Shuckburgh closing out the game,” said head coach Sarah Tucker. “Both girls pitched very well, we’re so proud of this team, as they all have the drive and we would like to see this in every game.”

Assistant coach Bob Couch said that all the coaches were happy with the performance and are glad the girls are having so much fun.

“This was easily our most complete game of the season, because we had dominant pitching from both Brooke Mulgrove who started the game and Faith Shuckburgh who finished the game,” said Couch. “It was especially fun to see how Brooke settled in and kept the Drumheller hitters from getting on base, with both strikeouts and weak infields hits that were scooped up for outs.”

This allowed the Savages to get the bats going and get an early lead that they did not let go of. And with Stettler’s strong offence with several of the girls getting timely hits with girls on base, Drumheller wasn’t quite up to the mark.

The coaches are focusing on getting the girls ready for the tournament in Stettler from June 3-5 that will have 40 teams from U10 to U19, from all over central Alberta participating.
