Stettler to host two lacrosse show games this weekend to generate more interest in the sport

The sport may just be taking root in the community, but the efforts appear to be certainly in the right direction to generate more interest on the part of players and parents:

Although there is no association in Settler yet, parents and coaches of the lacrosse players have arranged for a two-game show for next Sunday, May 15 at the Stettler arena that will see teams from neighbouring communities challenge each other.

One parent/coach, Kim Smyth, said the first game would start at 11 a.m. with Badlands peewee lacrosse team facing Innisfail peewee team #1.

In the second game at 2:30 p.m. Badlands peewee team will play against Red Deer Chiefs peewee team #2.

“Between the two games, we’ll have some short, fun lacrosse games going on for our Stettler spring camp kids,” said Smyth.

“We seem to have a lot of families interested and look forward to the sport growing here in town,” she said.

Earlier, several parents reported that their children were travelling as far as Drumheller to play lacrosse.
