Stettler swimmers improving

Gearing up for the end of the swimming season, the Stettler Swim Club has attended a handful of meets recently including the TREX meet at the University of Calgary and the Olympian Swim Club 10 and under series on June 6 and the Freeze or Fry in Red Deer on June 11-13.

At the TREX meet on May 29-30 Nicholas Baharally (14) swam 50 free in 31.67, 100 free in 1:10.68 and 100 breaststroke in 1:31.81. Colin McCann (11) swam 50 free in 37.19, 100 breaststroke in 1:52.34 and 200 IM in 3:19.16. Pilar McCann (7) swam 50 free in 57.93, 100 back in 2:35.66 and 100 breaststroke in 2:18.48. Claire Hunter (14) swam 50 free in 35.02, 200free in 2:44.65 and 100 breaststroke in 1:47.16. Stephen Teasdale (13) swam 200 free in 3:06.42, 100 butterfly in 1:59.53 and 200 IM in 3:54.40.

Ten swimmers attended the Freeze or Fry in Red Deer and enjoyed wonderful weather this year, in comparison to the cold weather in years past. After three long days in the heat the swimmers came out smiling and with some personal bests. Elli Anderson (9) swam a 54.31 in 50 breaststroke, a 53.43 in 50 freestyle, 4:24.39 in her very first 200 breaststroke event and came in first in her heat with a 1:54.30 in her 100 backstroke, taking off 9 seconds from her preliminary time. Nicholas Baharally (14) swam 400 freestyle in 5:55.51, 50 breaststroke in 40.18, 100 free in 1:09.55 and 100 breaststroke in 1:30.68. Claire Hunter came in second place in 1500 freestyle swimming it in 23:45.26. She swam her 50 freestyle in 34.75 and 400 freestyle in 5:56.08. Colin McCann (11) swam 50 freestyle in 37.12, 200 freestyle in 2:56.86 and 100 breaststroke in 1:48.38. Pilar McCann (7) swam her 50 freestyle in 57.89, 100 freestyle in 2:14.54 and 100 breaststroke in 2:22.98. Cassidy Munholland (12) swam 200 IM in 3:41.44, 1500 freestyle in 24:40.56 and 200 freestyle in 3:04.78. Jenny Munholland swam 50 freestyle in finals at a 46.63. She swam 200 breaststroke in 4:36.92 and 200 IM in 4:24.68. Stephen Teasdale (13) swam 400 freestyle in 6:38.05, 50 backstroke in 47.83, and an excellent 100 fly in 1:59.77. Wes Wilson (14) swam 400 freestyle in 5:11.19, 50 breast stroke in 42.18, and 50 freestyle in 28.91. Erin Yaremcio (13) swam 200 IM in 3:13.40, 100 freestyle in 1:18.41 and 200 fly in 3:31.13.

The swimmers of the month for May and June are Claire Hunter, Roam Thorsteinsson, Delaney Niehaus, Reid Esquirol and Nicholas Baharally.

Four swimmers from the club attended the Alberta age group trials on June 18, 19, 20 but results were not available at the time the Independent went to print on Tuesday, June 22.
