After two games away from home, Stettler Savages won a convincing one on home turf beating Delburne 15-6 on Wednesday, May 11.

With 14 girls on the team, Stettler dominated the game right through.

There was a time at the outset when Delburne was leading, but soon the Savages came back strong.

“The girls should be very proud of how they played,” said assistant coach Kevin Shuckburgh. “We were down early but they never up and grew stronger as the game went on, and it was great to see the girls executing the fundamentals that we’ve been working on during practice.”

The Stettler Savages team is headed by coach Sarah Tucker with Kevin Shuckburgh, Sarah McCrindle and Bob Couch assisting her, but all of them seemed to be on the same page as to how pleased they were with the team’s performance.

“The girls played very well last night and are coming together nicely,” said Tucker.

“Stettler had a homerun from Brooke Mulgrove and a triple from Madison Tucker and a few signals from Alandra Couch, Meghan Machett and Hannah Elines.”

Faith Shuckburgh started off the pitching and Madison McCrindle closed out the game.

The team will be playing in Settler tournament consisting of 40 teams from U10-U19 on June 3–5, and are also planning on trying for provincials in Edmonton later this year, in July.
