Stettler rallies allowing football game to proceed

Wildcats downed by Red Deer's Lindsay thurber

After some hiccups, the Stettler Wildcats game scheduled for Oct. 10 got underway at Wm. E Hay School.

A little after 7 p.m. it was announced that despite both the Stettler Wildcats and Red Deer's Lindsay Thurber Raiders being ready for the game, there had been a mix-up in scheduling for the game officials. A call went out, and a couple of volunteer officials were found from relatively close by, and a Wildcat's alumni and a former coach also stepped up to officiate.

The official arrived shortly after 8 p.m., and the kickoff finally happened shortly after 8:15.

Stettler found itself on the wrong side of a deficit score when Lindsay Thurber Raider Logan Polzier managed a five-yard run, scoring a touchdown with around four minutes into the first quarter.

However, the defence managed to prevent Lindsay Thurber from scoring on the convert attempt.

The bleeding continued for the beleaguered Wildcats in the second quarter, with two touchdowns, a field goal, a two-point convert, and a convert being scored against.

Not to be left off the scoreboard, however, Wildcat Evan Blanchard scored a touchdown in the dying seconds of the second quarter.

The score at the end of the first half was Lindsay Thurber 24, Stettler Wildcats 6.

Coming back from the intermission, the Wildcats found their defensive game; in the second half of the game, scoring was limited to a touchdown and a convert scored by Kayden Seifried in the dying seconds of the third quarter.

The final score was Lindsay Thurber 31, Stettler Wildcats 6.

Stettler travels for its next game in Camrose on Oct. 18.
