This past football season couldn't have gone any better for the Stettler Minor Football program, with the new Stettler Bobcats being added to the atom division and both the peewees and bantams having a great year.

Amidst all the success, business had to be taken care of as the Stettler Minor Football Association met at the Canalta Hotel's boardroom on Tuesday, Dec. 13 with coaches, officials and community members being a part of the evening.

"The 2016 season has been another good year with many successes on and off the field and everyone needs to be congratulated," said President Desmond Ansorger, Stettler Minor Football Association. "The club continues to grow; the football program has gone from two teams to three and we're well positioned to be the premier football club in the Central football and Red Deer leagues with over 120 members."

According to Ansorger, the Stettler and surrounding community have embraced the minor football teams with continued support by local businesses, schools and non-profit organizations.

Highlighting some of the season's success, Ansorger said, "Besides adding the Bobcats, we had lots of new great coaches bringing new dimensions to the program, and there has been a continual improvement in our players' in all of our programs."

The Stettler Cougars won the league championship in the bantam division, while the Stettler Panthers were the runners-up in the peewee category.

"The Atom Bobcats have already started showing huge development and considering that most of them had no exposure to football, this is good progress," Ansorger added. "We have a quarter more equipment, besides some of the online presence, which we continue to work on."

This year the program had 10 major sponsors donating valuable funds that were reinvested into the club.

"I take this opportunity to personally thank all sponsors, coaches, volunteers, parents, players and all those who have supported us so fervently all throughout the season," Ansorger said. "All the above has resulted in greater exposure for the club and with regular coverage by the local media and exposure on the social media platforms, all I can say is we're getting there."

Ansorger explained that the club continues to work to its priorities that have been set in the club's 2016 strategic plan with key strategies as follows: improve the quality, depth and diversity of the football programs; improve club infrastructure and access to the community; improve club administration and communication, besides developing a vibrant social program.
