The Stettler Curling Club is up and running for the season, and they are looking for new players.

While league play started the week of Nov. 1, according to treasurer Gail Millard new players can start any time.

There are a variety of options for anyone wishing to check out the sport.

An afternoon league open to anyone runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. After the afternoon league play concludes is a round of drop-in Stirling play,

Millard says that Stirling play is a faster-paced form of curling, where fewer rocks are thrown, each team has two curlers and teams can only sweep in the house.

“Games are usually done in an hour,” said Millard.

“It’s an easier form of curling.”

Monday evenings is dedicated to junior play, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evenings is the ladies league, running from 7 to 9 p.m.

Finally, the mens league runs Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.

“We’re always open for new curlers,” said Millard.

According to Millard, while some leagues are good, other leagues, such as the ladies, is still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Still, if anyone is interested in the sport, room can always be found for players in any of the leagues.

Millard says that the annual skills clinic has already run for the year, but all the members are great at supporting new players.

In addition to the looking for new players, Millard says that the volunteer board which manages the club is always looking for new members as well.

The Stettler Curling Club operates from Nov. 1 to April 1 every winter.
