Stettler archery club hosts winter tournament

The Wm. E. Hay Nockbusters archery team hosted its ninth annual Winter shoot on Feb. 7 and 8.

Overall, Wm. E. Hay fielded two high school teams which placed first and fifth. 

Individual highlights for Wm. E. Hay archers included Grayson LaRose, who placed first for Grade 9 boys, and third for high school boys and boys overall. 

Joining LaRose in Grade 9 scoring was Liam Shepherd, who placed second for the grade and fifth overall for both high school boys and boys overall.

On the girls' side, Megan Schrijver placed first in Grade 12 girls, second in high school girls, and second overall.

Other high-place finishers include Daniel Enyedy, who placed fourth overall in Grade 11 Boys, Logan Wheat, who placed second overall in Grade 12 boys, Kenzie Beyeler who placed fourth in Grade 10 girls, and Hannah Sayles, who placed third overall in Grade 11 girls.

Wm. E Hay had three teams participate in the tournament.

Castor's Theresetta Catholic School and Gus Wetter School also participated in the multi-school tournament.

For Theresetta, Ivory Cross placed third in Grade 4 girls.

Theresetta had one student compete.

From Gus Wetter School, Piper Dennie placed second in Grade 9 girls and 10th overall for high school girls.

Sisters Annabelle and Kelsey Stirling were not far behind; Grade 8 student Annabelle placed third in Grade 8 girls and third overall for middle school girls while Kelsey placed first for Grade 6 girls and fourth for middle school girls.

Gus Wetter had 20 archers competing.

Overall, 23 separate schools took part in the tournament over the two days. 

The tournament and archery program is part of the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), an international program which is aimed at students from Grades 4-12.  

According to the NASP website, around 1.3 million archers in nearly 9,600 schools around the world take part in archery programs under the NASP banner.
