Softball season in full swing

A rainy Thursday night didn’t deter Stettler’s under-16 girls’ softball team in a 25-7 victory over Innisfail.

Strong defence stood out in Stettler’s season-opening game.

Also in the Stettler Minor Softball Association this summer are one under-10 team, two under-12 teams, two under-14 clubs and an under-19 club.

“These teams consist of players from Stettler, Erskine, Gadsby, Castor and Rumsey,” said association president Sheri Morbeck. “The players are between the ages of eight and 19 years.

“These teams play at the hospital diamonds and Parkdale, with action every Monday through Thursday.”

Morbeck believes at least three teams plan to vie for the provincials in July.

Stettler’s home fastball tournament is set for June 1-3. “Entries are still coming in, and it looks like we should have a great weekend of ball that weekend,” said Morbeck, who also coaches the Scorpions, one of the under-12 teams.

Stettler 18 Delburne 11

Stettler 20 Clive 6
