Skocdopole ranked fourth as butterfly swimmer in Canada

Stettler Swim Club competed in two meets in December with several top finishes and standout performances.

Alana Skocdopole travelled to the annual Christmas Cracker meet in Victoria on the weekend of Dec. 11 to 13.

Swimming with Red Deer Catalina, Alana competed in the 15-and-over category.

This set her against university-level swimmers. but she held her own.

She finished second in the 50-m. fly with a time of 29.33, 200 individual medley. - 2:26.45 - achieving a new age group national time, eighth place in the 100-m. freestyle 1:00.77 - 13th place - and a new western national time.

She also finished fourth in the 100-m fly 1:04.76 and eight in the 400 I.M. 5:15.19.

Each month Swim Alberta releases its “Top Five.”

This provincial ranking highlights the top five swimmers achieving the best time for their age group in each event. In the Dec. 12, 2009 rankings, Skocdopole was Alberta’s fastest 15-year-old female in the 50 metre butterfly. She appeared in the top five in seven other events. As of Dec. 16, 2009. Skocdopole was ranked fourth in Canada in the 50-m. butterfly.

Competing in the JP Fiset Invitational Swim Meet in Edmonton from Dec. 3 to 6 2009. Claire Hunter swam the 100-meter 100 freestyle in 1:15.89, 50 backstroke in 40.72, 100 back in 1:29.44 and 50 fly in 45.17.

Erin Yaremcio swam the 50 free in 34.70, 100 free in 1:15.67, 100 back in 1:28.69 and 100 butterfly in 1:50.56

At the Cascade Age Group challenge in Calgary on Dec 11 to 13, Hunter swam the 50 free in 34.37, 200 free in 2:44.12, and 200 IM in 3:10.20.

Nicholas Baharally captured one gold medal, two silvers an on bronze.

He swam the 50 free in 31.14, 100 free in 1:08.37, 200 breast 3:09.64, 200 IM in 2:54.34. Colin McCann swam 400 free in 5:40.20 (dropping 40 seconds from his previous time), 100 breast in 1:45.21, 50 fly in 42.84 and 200 IM in 3:05.24.

Cassidy Munholland swam 100 free in 1:22.45, beating her previous time by three seconds.

She swam the 50 back in 42.13 and 200 IM in 3:36.15.

Jenny Munholland swam the 50 back in 58.70, 100 back in 2:15.46, 50 breast in 1:00.50 and 50 fly in 1:01.56.

Stephen Teasdale swam the 100 free in 1:23.92, 200 free in 2:59.44, 50 back in 46.71, and 200 IM in 3:41.14.

He swam an excellent 400 freestyle with a time of 6:16.22.

Alicia Baharally swam the 50 free in 34.82, 200 free in 2:44.41, 800 free in 12:15.56 and 50 fly in 42.54.

Stephen Zuk swam 50 free in 35.51, 100 free in 1:16.93, 100 back in 1:35.04 and 200 back in 3:09.96.

Stephen Zuk and Nicholas Baharally both qualified for finals with outstanding back and breaststroke swims.
