Senior teams host hoops tournament

The two JV basketball teams from William E. Hay Composite High School hosted the Notre Dame Cougars of Red Deer on Monday night

The two JV basketball teams from William E. Hay Composite High School hosted the Notre Dame Cougars of Red Deer on Monday night in games earlier postponed because of a snowstorm earlier this season.

“It wasn’t the game the girls were hoping for, as they fell 73-22, but the honorable mentions go out to our top scorers, Mackenzie Sorensen and Ally Marshall with six points each,” said Santana Scarf, coach of the Wildcat JV girls.

The boys’ team from Stettler fought hard, despite losing 60-43. Kyle Lawrence scored an impressive 17 points, while Terrance Corbett played a noteworthy defensive game for the Wildcats.

The JV girls were scheduled to return to the court Tuesday night for an exhibition match against visiting Morrin, while the boys travel to Ponoka tonight for their final league game of the season.

In other hoops news, the senior boys and girls were slated to play in Wetaskiwin last night.

The Stettler boys and girls are home for their senior tournament on the weekend.
