Panthers beat Drumheller, Cougars overcome Rocky

Stettler Panthers won 46-13, remain unbeaten 3-0.

Stettler Peewee Panthers played a gritty game of football against Drumheller, defeating them 46-13 on Saturday, Sept. 23 in a home game.

Peewees Kaden Muhlbach and Kyle Dennis scored two TDs each, while Reid Shirley and Zach McCord scored one each. The Peewee safety scored a two-point as well, and the Panthers would have done a shutout, hadn’t Drumheller scored two TDs in the fourth period.

“When the Panthers took to the field against Drumheller with that type of focus and a 100-per-cent team effort you get a result like we were able to enjoy watching on the weekend,” said Kevin Shuckburgh, defensive coordinator. “We watched film as a team of the previous game against Rocky and found numerous areas where we could improve.”

Shuckburgh added that as they practiced all week there was a conscious effort by both players and coaches to get better at what they felt needed improvement.

“Our players are smart unselfish kids but they push each other to get better and hold each other accountable, and are building a culture that’s fun to watch.”

Reiterating their efforts was offensive coordinator, Jamie Muhlbach, “Our offence had a complete game this past Saturday. It took the first quarter for the O-line to get their feel for the defence, once that run game was established the skilled positions took over.”

Muhlbach explained that aside from some ball handling issues, he felt the team had got stronger as the game played out.

“We were able to be balanced with the run and the pass as our defence continued to get us the ball back and maintain good field position,” Muhlbach noted. “This type of a win gives us confidence moving forward and further prepares us for the stronger part of the schedule.”

Cougars beat Rocky Mountain House 26-6

Also playing a home game against Rocky Jr. Rebels were Stettler Cougars in the afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 23. They played a great game as well with TDs scored by Liam Fitzgerald, Reece Kranzler, and Blake O’Connor, who scored two touchdowns.

“It was a very physical game, and as a team we are slowly peaking at the right time,” said Grant McQuay, offensive coordinator.
