Four swimmers from the Stettler Swim Club were busy over the last few weeks improving their times and qualifying for prestigious swim meets.
Over the weekend of February 27-28, Claire Hunter (13) and Erin Yaremcio (12) qualified to attend the 2010 Team Aquatic Supplies Alberta age group trials in Sherwood Park for swimmers who have obtained “B” qualifying times.
“Both girls had great success at this meet,” said Amanda Hugh, the Stettler Swim Club Coach.
Erin Yaremcio had new best times for 50 m. freestyle (34.09), 100 m. freestyle (1:14.68), 400 m. freestyle (5:43.23) and 50 m. butterfly (41.01).
For her part, Claire Hunter reached new best times in 50 m. freestyle (33.96), 200 m. freestyle (2:42.30), 400 m. freestyle (5:42.87), and 200 m. medley, according to the information given by Hugh.
On the weekend of March 5-7, the club sent Nicholas Baharally (13) and Colin McCann (10) to the 2010 Speedo Alberta age group championships in Edmonton.
Baharally returned with best times in 50 m breaststroke (38.60) and 100 m freestyle (1:07.56). McCann swam new best times in 100 m. freestyle (1:17.69), 200 m. freestyle (2:47.16), 50 m. breaststroke (47.25), and 100 m breaststroke (1:40.76).
“Both boys made it to finals at least once during the event to compete against the top ranked age group swimmers in Alberta,” said Hugh.
“Stettler swimmers are now preparing to head into the long course season with even more focused and concentrated training as we anticipate further success through April, May and June,” she added.
