Minor hockey action continues with provincials just around the corner

Minor hockey action continued last week with local teams getting mixed results as the time for provincials approach fast.

Bantam A Storm had a rough start to last weekend’s game losing 11 – 4 to the Battle River Outlaws. Goals came from Braden Reynolds and Landon Barnes. The team rebounded on Sunday to defeat the Lacombe Bantam Rockets by a score of 6 – 4. Braden Reynolds led the way with three goals. Singles were added by Chase Mcgonigal, Jordan Fisher and Tanner Steinwand.

Earlier, bantam A Storm won a regional tournament in Vermillion winning all their games on the weekend of Jan. 15-16. In the final game of the tournament they won 11-2 against Springbank Storm, led by Braden Reynolds with four goals and Jordan Fisher with three. Singles were added by Tanner Steinwand, Cody Ball, Chase Mcgonigal and Ben Nichols. Dylan Humbke was in net for two wins, with Ben Nichols for the other.

As for bantam B Storm, they lost 5-3 to Hobbema on Saturday, Jan. 29 in an exciting and competitive game. Scoring for Stettler side were Brandon Howarth, Brendan Petersen and Kyle Froese. The next day, bantam B Storm overpowered Sylvan Lake Lakers 5-4 in another competitive game. Scorers were Kyle Froese, 10 Jesse LaRose, Patrick Ryan and William Whiteside (2).

Atom AA Elks outclassed Innisfail in Innisfail on Sunday, Jan. 30 with a final score of 13-1.

Goals scored by: Adam Shirley (4); Daylan Kuefler; Rhett Shingoose (2); Samuel Hamelin ; Erik Rost; Brady Turner; Alex De Young; Clayton Smith); and Kameron Bainbridge.

Atom AA Elks are heading to Strathcona to play the Strathcona Atom A for the second provincial game in the first series on Friday Feb. 4.

The series’ outcome will be decided on a goal total. The Stettler atom AA Elks won the first game of the series by a score of 7-3. If they beat Strathcona in this series, they will then play the provincial host team Wainwright in the final 2 game total goal series. Regardless of the outcome of the final series both teams in the final series will be going to the provincial tournament in Wainwright on March 17- 20th.

Elks also have a league game on Sunday, Feb. 6 in Trochu vs Kneehill.
