Midget Storm look ahead to provincials

Stettler Storm midget team looks forward to 2010 as they move ahead in their bid to complete the season at the top of the Tier 3 division undefeated.

Stettler Storm midget team looks forward to 2010 as they move ahead in their bid to complete the season at the top of the Tier 3 division undefeated.

Head coach Lewis Frickelton says he is confident that his team is well placed to complete the season unbeaten to make it to the playoffs.

Asked for his prediction regarding the remaining 14 games in the regular season, “There are three very strong teams in our division and we have beaten all three. If my team continues to play three periods of hockey, they won’t beat us,” said Frickelton.

But he added “anything can happen.”

In their latest series of consecutive wins, midget Storm overpowered Rocky Renegades 9-1 on Dec. 19, beat Olds 5-2 the next day and shut out Kneehill 5-0 on Dec. 22

Midget Strom currently sit at the top of the division with eight wins and one tie and 17 points, followed by Sylvan Lake Lakers who have played two more games but have four fewer points than the Storm.

Storm play their first regular season game after the Christmas break on the road against Calmar Cobras on Sunday, Jan. 3. Then the team has a long pause until they play Kneehill Chiefs at home on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Frickelton says they are now looking forward to the midget hockey tournament that takes place in Stettler next weekend, beginning on Friday, Jan. 8.

The tournament has been jointly organized by Stettler’s three midget teams with each team inviting three teams to make up 12-team tournament roster.
