The Bolts played a great game against Strathmore last Saturday, Nov. 12 as they went on to win 3-2.
Bryce Cornelissen scored the first goal with an assist from Mark Bengert and Kieran Rost. And although the equalizer from the Kings didn’t come before the second period, the Bolts made sure that they had the game in control.
A second goal from Dylan Houston with an assist from Cornelissen and Logan Davidson took the score with Lightning in the lead 2-1, but Strathmore held on well and scored the equalizer soon after.
Determined to get another win, Matt Sylvester, with an assist from Houston and Davidson, scored Lightning’s third goal with the second period ending 3-2.
In the third period Lightning warded off the opponents well with the game ending 3-2.
“Very happy with the way we played on Sunday,” said Head Coach Gavin Brandl. “Not to toss around clichés but it was a really good ‘road win.’ We played physical, kept odd man rushes against to a minimum and really prevented them from getting any offensive momentum at any point of the game.”
Speaking of Jordan McCallum, Brandl said, “Jordy was a big part of that, any time there was a little breakdown he was there to make a big save and that’s huge for our confidence as a group. I had a feeling based on the week of practice we’ve had that we would be ready to compete hard and the boys proved that to be correct.”
Lightning will be taking on Blackfalds Wranglers on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and will be looking to avenge their last defeat on home ice, which they lost by a huge margin.
