Lacrosse teams to get new jerseys

Money raised at the Saturday, May 14 SMLA pub night will be pooled with this year's fundraising results to purchase new jerseys.

Money raised at the Saturday, May 14 Stettler Minor Lacrosse Association (SMLA) pub night will be pooled with this year's fundraising results to purchase new jerseys for the Bantam and Midget lacrosse teams.

Though small, the group of lacrosse aficiandos who packed the Stettler Hotel's bar on Saturday night contributed freely to the league. Since the summer sport wears light-weight jerseys, they are prone to tearing easier than hockey jerseys, vice president Kim Smyth said. The elder divisions' jerseys are, at five years of age, becoming a bit yellowed since the sport requires a lot of running, and thus a lot of sweating.

"Right now we are sharing some jerseys," Smyth said. "We have enough that we can swap out to replace torn ones, but we want to replace them."

The league will also be debuting its new jersey logo with the new jerseys. The younger leagues will get their new jerseys two seasons from now, Smyth said.
