With the medals - Wm. E Hay Junior girls’ volleyball team brought back the season’s first volleyball medals in their category from the weekend tournament in Caroline.

Wm. E. Hay junior girls’ volleyball team returned with bronze medals from an intensive and exhausting weekend tournament in Caroline with the coach expressing great satisfaction with the team’s performance.

The girls played five games on one day on Saturday and won the game against Sundre in two straight sets, but their all other games were split with one team winning a set.

“Coach Katie O’Neill and I are very proud of our girls,” said Hayley Leschert, the head coah of the junior girls’ team.

“It was exciting to watch the girls improve over the course of the day. Even in our final game, when we knew that the girls were tired, they played hard - losing the first set by only 23-25 and then winning the second set 25-16.”

“We placed third overall and came home with bronze medals (and a trophy),” said Leschert.

Junior girls continued their regular season games on Monday, Oct. 26 with a match against Lacombe.

Senior girls and boys volleyball teams were also playing on Tuesday evening against Notre Dame High School of Red Deer.

The outcome of the games was not known at the time the Independent went to press.
