Junior girls advance to volleyball playoffs

As the volleyball season draws to a close, the junior girls team of the Wm E Hay High School pulled off a great upset to beat Lindsay Thurber in a challenge game advancing to the playoff round.

As the volleyball season draws to a close, the junior girls team of the Wm E Hay High School pulled off a great upset to beat Lindsay Thurber in a challenge game advancing to the playoff round.

Junior girls’ coach Hayley Leschert said her team produced a great performance on Monday night, Nov. 9 to secure their place in the playoffs.

“We won 3-2 in a very close game, “ she said.

“In one of the sets we came back from 0-9 to win the set 25-21. The girls did a phenomenal job. We are so proud of them,”

Junior girls will now play against Camrose in an away game next week.

As for the senior boys Wildcat volleyball team, they placed fifth in a weekend tournament in Camrose after winning one of their games and losing two.

The senior boys beat Pigeon Lake in two straight sets and lost to Whitecourt and Camrose in two straight sets.

They split one sets each in the game with St. Paul and Barrhead and lost the tiebreaker game to St. Paul.

Stettler and Erskine will host the CARA junior boys and girls tournaments this weekend with successful teams advancing to CWAJHAA tournaments next weekend which is to take place in Castor.
