Halkirk high school rodeo impresses watchful observers

The season’s first District 2 Alberta high school rodeo was held at the Bull-a-rama grounds in Halkirk last weekend with 200 entrees in 15 events.

There were three local area competitors. Tessa Mabbott was entered in barrel racing and pole bending.

Dana Oram entered barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway and team roping with Kara Spady in barrels, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping.

There was a good sized crowd watching and the competitors said it was a good rodeo and they were impressed with the facilities.

Kathy Oram was one of the main organizers with lots of help from the parents, Darcy Mabbott was an arena boss and Brittany Mabbott was the announcer. High school rodeos are held every weekend through to Oct. 4 with the next one in Bowden.
