Grade 9 and JV teams doing well in basketball

Senior boy and girl Wildcats lost to Lindsay Thurber Raiders last week in their basketball match- ups while JV teams got mixed results and Grade 9 teams did better than their seniors,

Senior girl Wildcats lost to Raiders with a score of 79-43 while the score for the senior boys game was not available.

JV girl Wildcats lost 51-45 to Notre Dame on Monday, Feb. 14 in double overtime.

Tied at 34 at the end of regulation, 40 at the end of the first overtime, the JV girls lost the game in the last few minutes. High scorer was Kelsey Fisher with 20.

“It was one of those games for Kelsey. Everything she threw up at the net practically went in,” said coach Charisse McDonald.

“Our defense continues to be the strongest part of our game and scoring still is a struggle although this game was our highest point total of the year. “

Earlier, the JV girls lost to Rocky 35-30 in an away game.

As for JV boys, they lost 70-25 to Notre Dame on Monday, Feb. 14.

“The boys’ scoring troubles continued as they kept up with the Notre Dame team in overall play but just were unable to capitalize on their scoring chances,” said coach Warren Aspenes.

“The press resulted in many turnovers for our team, but unless we learn to finish around the net, we are going to find it difficult to get into the win column.

The Grade 9 boys basketball team played Delburne on Monday night and beat them 68-21. The leading scorers were Justin Fleischhacker with 18 points, followed by Nicholas Baharally with 10 points and Andrew Kim and Stephen Zuk with 8 points each.

The Grade 9 boys defeated Erskine last week on Wednesday by a score of 84-18. The leading scorers were Nicholas Baharally and Justin Fleischhacker with 15 points each, followed by Matthew Bennett, Brock Prescott and Stephen Zuk with 8 points each.

On the same night, Grade 8-9 girls won 45- 36 against Erskine girls.

JV Boys host a tournament this weekend with their first game on Friday at 3 p.m.
