Stettler baseball teams performed well as they took on visiting teams in the home tournament over the weekend, Friday-Sunday, June 3-5.

The U14 girls had a great run going undefeated only to lose to contest for the gold medal on the number of runs against.

"I was so proud of how the girls played this weekend," said assistant coach Kevin Shuckburgh. "Their goal was to win the gold, which meant we would have to win all four games."

Stettler beat Lacombe 9-8 in the first game, won against Airdrie 9-2, and finally against Sylvan Lake 12-4.

Unfortunately, though the girls won the first three, they ended up in a three-way tie for first in round robin and had to play for the bronze medal based on total runs against.

"We had a good talk before the bronze medal game and decided to make it our gold medal game," added Shuckburgh. "A lot of the teams would have been disappointed and come out flat but not our girls, they played with fire in their eyes."

Stettler 1 U10 wins gold, Stettler 2 silver

With Stettler U10 having two teams, one of them went for gold and the girls had a great time as they beat Lacombe 1 in their first game 5-2, Lacombe 2 in their second game 6-3 and finally played Stettler 2 to win 4-3.

"We had a great weekend playing ball and won all three of our games, but more importantly we had a lot of fun playing in the great weather," said coach Clint Greiner. "The girls improved so much this year with this being the first for most."

According to Greiner, there were a few home runs, nice plays to first for an out, even a throw to third a couple of times to try and get a girl stealing, and quite a few strike outs.

"That is the hardest position to play at this level pitching, but we have been working on this all year and it really is starting to show the efforts they put in," added Greiner. "Our game against Stettler 2 was a very good game and winning the game with two runs in the last inning was great, with Summer Greiner batting in the last run for the win."
