‘Girls of summer’ go to bat

The Stettler under-10 girls’ softball team made the journey down Highway 56 to play Big Valley last Monday night.

The Stettler under-10 girls’ softball team made the journey down Highway 56 to play Big Valley last Monday night.

It was the first game of the year for the Stettler players, and they showed many of the skills they have been practising.

“It was a well-played game and the real winners were the family and friends who came out to cheer for the girls,” said Stettler coach Bob Couch.

“It was a hard-fought 6-6 tie.”

The Stettler girls were led offensively by Brooke Laisnez, whose hard hit to left field drove in two runs. Defensively, Alycia Petersen made a great stop at shortstop and only the speed of the Big Valley player prevented it from being an out.

Next up for the Stettler girls is a trip to Bashaw on Wednesday. They have one more game out of town before playing their first home game next Monday, May 28.
