Stettler's Sharon Lawlor was the winner of the women's league and Clint McAllister of the men's as they walked away with a total of $5,000 prize money on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, sponsored by Stettler's Aspen Ford.

"It was a year-long sponsorship of both men's league and women's league," said Tim Berry of Aspen Ford. "This was our first year and it was very successful as we received some awesome feedback from Stettler Golf and Country Club and the players."

Ford has been sponsoring Stettler Golf Club's Wednesday night men's league, which has 120 members.

"All season long Ford has sponsored a hole-in-one competition on hole 6 for the men," said Ernie Shirreff, manager of Stettler Golf and Country Club. "Nobody got a hole in one on a Wednesday night so when Clint McAllister won the closest to the pin game, he was declared the winner of $2,500 for men's, while Lawlor won the women's."

According to Shirreff, three players hit a shot to within nine feet of the pin, but Clint was the closest with eight feet one inch.

"The hole in one prize every week for the whole year for both the men and women was not won so we decided to divide the money between them for the final night," added Berry. "I would like to thank the Stettler Golf Club for allowing us to work with them on this sponsorship and all the participants for coming out to play."

As the season ends, Shirreff said that Stettler Golf has had a successful year.

"We have had a very successful season having hosted a men's tournament, a ladies' and a seniors' open this year, besides the Stettler Oilman's and the Club championship to end it," added Shirreff. "We've also had growing ladies' and men's leagues and had 5 hole in ones recorded by various people throughout the year."
