It was an impressive haul for Central Alberta athletes at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association Track and Field Provincials in Calgary, June 6-7.
It was a banner day for Red Deer's Notre Dame Cougars. As a team, they captured bronze in the 4A team rankings with 321 points.
Notre Dame's Cassidy Bouchard won gold in both the senior women's 200m and 400m races. She won the 200m in a time of 25.13 seconds and the 400m in 56.32 seconds, the only senior women's runner to go below one minute in the race. Bouchard also captured gold in the women's open 300m hurdles, with a time of 45.48 seconds.
Bouchard also helped the Notre Dame relay team to gold in the senior women's 4X100m relay. Bouchard, Paige Zinger, Georgia Stevens, Aurelia Kozoletova won the relay with a time of 50.43 seconds. Kozoletova also captured gold in the senior women's pole vault, clearing 3.22m.
Zinger captured gold in the pentathlon, breaking a record set in 2019 for overall points. She picked up 3465 points over the five events. She set provincial records in the long jump (5.35m) and high jump (1.69m).
Notre Dame's Amina Leon won silver in the intermediate women's high jump, clearing 1.65m.
Sianna Freele of St. Joseph High School won silver in the junior girls' 100m and 200m. She finished the 100m with a time of 12.41 seconds and had a time of 25.56 in the 200m.
Lindsey Thurber's Deveda Cook won bronze in the junior girls' 80m hurdles in a time of 12.37 seconds. Cook also won gold in the long jump with a jump of 5.13m and silver in the junior girls' high jump, clearing 1.55 metres.
Lindsay Thurber's Madi Stevenson won bronze in junior girls' triple jump with a jump of 10.11m.
Innisfail's Natalie Harrison earned silver with a throw of 12.15 metres in junior girls shot put.
Isla Sawula of St. Joseph High School earned bronze in the junior girls' javelin with a throw of 36.12m.
HJ Cody's Blaire Campbell won bronze in the intermediate women's 100m, with a time of 12.13 seconds. She also won bronze in the 200m with a time of 25.08 seconds. HJ Cody's Alyssa Mathieson won gold in the senior women's high jump, clearing 1.71m.
The intermediate central zone team of Campbell, Jaeda Moore, Leah Kilpatrick and Jillian Marquart won silver in the 4X100m relay in a time of 51.94.
Ponoka's Truce Cardinal-Beaverbon earned bronze in the junior men's 200m, with a time of 22.71 seconds.
Lindsay Thurber's Taye Savoury captured bronze in the junior men's 400m, with a time of 52.53 seconds.
Delburne's Matthew Rathapilly won the junior men's discus with a throw of 38.06m.
Cody Mills of Notre Dame High School won bronze in the intermediate men's 400m race with a time of 51.42 seconds.
Lindsey Thurber's Tyson DeZutter captured silver in the intermediate men's high jump, clearing 1.90m.
Ponoka's Noah Bendera won gold in the intermediate men's javelin with a toss of 53.79m.
Lacombe's Brady Keller captured gold in the senior men's 1500m, with a time of 3:58 seconds. He won the race by 19 seconds. Keller also won the 3,000m race, in a time of 9:04.04.
Jett Rosch of Olds won the senior men's shot put, with a toss of 13.33m. Rosch also earned silver in discus, with a toss of 39.40m.
Notre Dame's Dawsen Descoteau won gold in the men's 300m hurdles in a time of 40.03 seconds.
Notre Dame's men's 4X400m relay team earned silver. The group consisted of Harrison Grant, Cooper Froese, Cody Mills and Emerson Fuchs.
Lindsay Thurber finished fourth in the 4A team rankings.
