Local steer wrestling Cody Cassidy of Donalda was crowned the 2009 champion as the Canadian Finals Rodeo wrapped up in Edmonton on Nov. 14.
Leading by $14,000 in winnings heading in the sixth and final go-round, Cassidy maintained his lead after Tanner Milan missed his steer.
With a time of 4.7 seconds, Cassidy split third, his fourth placing of the week which began with a spilt of first on the opening night.
Even though he won by more than $14,000, last year’s win was even easier when he clinched the crown after the fifth go-round.
Don Thompson of Endiang was proud that his Brett Thompson of Medicine Hat won the bull riding championship, attaining a score of 88.75 points in the final round on the bull of the year Speed Dial.
