Busy weekend for Stettler minor hockey

Missed opportunity - As the Lightning played against Vipers in blue rink

Most of the Stettler minor hockey teams had games during the Family Day long weekend.

The Stettler atom B Storm played against the Rimbey Renegades on Feb. 19 at the Rimbey Arena. They won the game 7-5. Jackson Squires scored four goals, and Gracie Morbeck, two. Brendan Tucker scored the remaining goal. The next day they played against the Bashaw atom A Stars at the Bashaw Arena. They lost 17-1. Brendan Tucker scored the lone goal.

The Stettler atom C Storm took on the Castor Atom Cyclones at the Castor Area on Feb. 19. They lost 8-1. Selena Sharpe scored the goal.

In peewee division, Stettler DQ Blizzards played against the Lacombe A Rockets at Barnett Arenas on Feb. 19. They lost 6-0.

The Stettler peewee A Storm played against the Killam Warriors at the Sedgewick Rec Centre on Feb. 19. They lost 7-5. Steven McCrea scored a hat trick. Jaden Richards and Cooper Smyth scored the remaining goals. On Feb. 20, they played against Sundre at the Stettler Rec Centre. They dropped the game with a score of 5-2. Steven McCrea and Ryan Mielke scored the goals.

The Stettler peewee Storm played against the Innisfail Water Pure & Simple Flyers on Feb. 18 at the Innisfail Arena. They won 10-3. Jay Nichols scored four goals. Brock Hermus, Wayce Hellekson, Ashley Sharpe, Makayla Peters, Tristan Bryce and Edward Kim each scored one goal.

In bantam division, Stettler AA Storm played against the Olds Chiefs on Feb. 19 at the Olds & District Sports Complex. They lost 6-2. Jacques DuToit and Stefan DuToit scored the two goals.

The Stettler bantam A Storm played against the Ponoka B on Feb. 18 at the Stettler Rec Centre. They lost 6-3. Chase Mcgonigal, Jordan Fisher and Branden Reynolds scored the goals. The next day, they overpowered Lacombe B Rockets at the Barnett Arenas. They won 7-6. Zackary Werbowsky and Branden Reynolds each scored two goals. Tanner Steinwand, Jordan Fisher and Chase Mcgonigal completed the tally with one goal each.

The Stettler bantam B Storm played against the Spruceview Stars on Feb.18 at the Dickson Arena. They lost 13-0. Their next game, however, was a 1-0 win the next day against Rocky Hitmen at the Rocky Arena Complex. Next, they faced Spruceview Stars on Feb. 20 at the Big Valley Agriplex and lost 8-2. Brycen Bainbridge scored the two goals.

In midget hockey, Stettler Blues played against the Sylvan Lake AA Lakers on Feb. 18, losing 10-1 with the sole goal for the local side coming from Kelly Coppock. Next they were set against Olds Mustangs on Feb. 19 at the Olds and District Sports Complex, where they were edged by a score of 5-1. Lyle Wooden scored the goal for the Blue..

The Stettler midget A Storm took on Rimbey Renegades on Feb. 19 at the Stettler Rec Centre with the visiting side scoring a comfortable win of 9-2. Nick Yaschuk and Braden Bowie scored the two goals. Their next game on the road against Ponoka Wolves on Feb. 20 at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex was another game without a victory. They lost 5-3- with Brandon Hoskins, Braden Bowie and Kelton Turner scoring for the local boys.

The Stettler Midget B team played against the Red Deer Better Bodies on Feb. 20 at the Stettler Rec Centre and lost 3-2. Tanner Duncan and Parker Cassidy scored the goals.

As for girls, the bantam female team played against the Delburne Outlaws on Feb. 19 at the Delburne Agriplex, winning 5-4 thanks to goals from Jennifer Hallett, Jayden Hogg, Sarah Imbery, Dakota Schwarzenberger and Ronni Burrows. On Feb. 21, they played against the Sylvan Lake Bantam Lakers at the Sylvan Lake Arena, again winning with a score of 4-3. Morgan VanDusen scored two goals. Jayden Hogg and Kelsie Litke scored the remaining goals.

The Stettler Midget Vipers played against the Olds Midgets on Feb. 17 at the Stettler Rec Centre. They won 2-1. Brooklyn Paget and Kennidy Fisher scored the goals.

The Stettler Midget Vipers played against the Wetaskiwin Midgets on Feb. 18 at the Stettler Rec Centre. The game was tied 3-3. Nicole York, Alyce Davidson and Kennidy Fisher scored the goals.
