It was busy this past weekend for Stettler Thunder lacrosse teams, as all but Bantam had games and festivals in which they played.
On Saturday, May 28, the mini-tyke teams travelled to Red Deer, while the tykes headed to Blackfalds for festivals.
That same day, Novice Thunder went to Olds, where they lost 8-1. It was a tough game for a new goalie, "and he faced a ton of shots," association vice-president Kim Smyth said.
On Friday, May 27, Peewee Thunder went to Red Deer to play Sylvan Lake, losing 8-2. Saturday had the team in Olds, where they redeemed the loss of the night before, outscoring Olds by 10-3.
A 10-8 win for Midget Thunder on Sunday, May 29, brought them home triumphant from Three Hills.
This coming Friday, June 3, Midget Thunder host Lacoka at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Stettler hosts Lacoka, with the Tykes starting at 10 a.m. game, followed by Peewee at 11 a.m. The Bantam Thunder hit the rink at 12:30 p.m. Novice Thunder heads to Red Deer that day for a 10 a.m. game versus Sylvan Lake.
Sunday, Bantam Thunder hosts to Olds at 10 a.m., and Novice Thunder hosts Red Deer at 11:30 a.m.
June 11-12 will be a big Lacrosse weekend in Stettler. On Saturday, Stettler is hosting the final Tyke Festival of the 2016 season. There will be 12 teams from all over Central Alberta, with games being played from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the Mini Tyke festival will run on the Red Arena, while older teams take to the Blue Arena. Games start 10 a.m. for Novice, 11 a.m. for Peewees, 12:30 p.m. for Bantam, and 2 p.m. for Midgets.
"Then we are thrilled to host the Lacoka Juniors, (which has several) Stettler boys on the permanent roster as well as many of our Stettler Midgets who play as affiliate players, when they take on the Medicine Hat Sun Devils," Smyth said. The game starts at 4:30 p.m.
Playoffs for Novice through Midget will begin after June 13.
