The Bolts had a great game against the Cubs this past Saturday, Oct. 29, as they started ripping through the Cub defence early on with a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Matt Sylvester scored the first and third goals, while Dylan Houston scored the second.

The second period was no different and Lightning consolidated their lead with Quade Cassidy and Sylvester scoring the fourth and fifth goals.

The Cubs fought hard and were able to net the puck just once with the score at the second period being 5-1.

In the third period the Cubs looked formidable as they tried to break through the Lightning defence, managing to score the second goal early on.

But with the Bolts determined to increase the lead, Justin Golby scored with an Ethan Rost and Cassidy assist, followed by Bryce Cornelissen, scoring the seventh goal.

Head Coach Gavin Brandl was happy with his team's performance.

"It was nice to see some continuity in the positives from our last game to this one," Brandl said. "We capitalized on our chances, our special teams were excellent and we got another solid goaltending performance."

According to Brandl, that's a pretty simple recipe for success so there's a lot of confidence in the boys right now with those elements working for them.

"There were some good teaching points on the defensive side of the game so we will break down the film with boys and get that looked after in preparation for our next game and as always continue to push our skills development with a good week of practice," Brandl added.

The Bolts will be on the road for the next two games, facing Blackfalds Wranglers on Sunday, Nov. 6 and Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The next home game is on Tuesday, Nov. 15 against Blackfalds.
