It was an old Battle River Hockey League matchup on Friday and Saturday as the Big Valley Oil Kings played the first two games of the south division finals against their old rival, the Daysland Northstars.

It didn't go well for the Oil Kings in their two games against Daysland, who led the regular season south division standings.

On Friday, Feb. 12, the Oil Kings hosted the first game in the best-of-five series, losing the hard-fought fixture by a score of 5-3. The first half of the first period was a scuffle as both teams jockeyed to take control, but the stalemate was eventually broken by Oil Kings captain Matt Kinnunen about half-way through the period. Brandon Nowakowski scored in the second, and Kinnunen again in the third.

The next day, the Oil Kings headed to Daysland, where they were defeated 6-3. Brendan Lamb scored in the second to put the Oil Kings on the map, with two Kinnunen goals in the third.

The next, and possibly final, game in the series takes place in Big Valley at the Agriplex on Friday, Feb. 19. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m.
