Basketball season draws to a close with the final tournament of season

The Grade 9 boys’ basketball team of the Wm. E Hay Wildcats concluded their season in Red Deer at last weekend’s CWAJHAA Championships, playing good games but not always ending up as winners.

In their first game on Friday afternoon, March 11, the young Wildcats faced the Hunting Hills Lightning and lost 44-28 after what coach Norbert Baharally described as “a very good game.”

The next day in their morning game Grade 9 boys played against West Central Rebels from Rocky Mountain House and won convincingly with a score of 63-42.

“That put our guys into the consolation final versus the St. Francis Timberwolves. It was a very close and exciting game but in the end we lost by a score of 54-49.” said Baharally.

He said, having won the CARA championship the week before and having played at the CWAJHAA Championships as well as numerous other tournaments, Grade 9 boys’ basketball team had a great season.

“I would like to thank my 12 players as well as their parents for their commitment and dedication during the season,” Baharally said expressing the hope that they would remain involved in basketball in the future as well.

Grade 8/9 girls also ended their season with the championship title of the girls’ side of the CARA tournament hosted by Stettler the week before.

The girls won all their three games against Erskine, Coronation and Theresetta to win the title.
