This year’s badminton season ended last week with the provincial tournament for senior boys and girls and the CWAJHAA tournament for the juniors with Kristy Wade of Wm. E. Hay bringing a second provincial bronze medal to Stettler in as many years.

At the CWAJHAA tournament in Sylvan Lake, from Stettler Middle School, Taylor Chase, Kayleigh Croker, Destiny Croker competed in singles while Allison Cassidy/Levi Fisher, Alyssa Acera/Kieran Rost, Braden Reynolds/Tyler Wells and Lyn Ganser/Kennidy Fisher took part in doubles events and although they tried hard they could not come back with any medals.

As for junior varsity category, The Grade 9 boys’ double team of Josh Nichols and Micah Croker narrowly lost out in their bid to advance beyond their pool following a three-way tie for second place.

Despite the fact that only a single medal was won by the Wm. E Hay at the provincial tournament, local athletes did earn the second place, thanks to an aggregate point scoring system.

Alongside, Kristy Wade’s bronze medal, the points won by James Langford (fourth place in senior boys’ singles) and the senior mixed doubles’ team of Joey Poapst and Kylie Younghans helped the Wm. E Hay team to secure their place in team standings.
