Wm. E Hay High School gym was buzzing with activity on Wednesday, April 13, when scores of badminton players converged in Stettler for the Highway 12 tournament.

“In all, 12 students from Wm. E. Hay earned the right to continue onto areas,” said Chris Langford, badminton coach at the Wm . E Hay.

At the senior categories, 10 Wm. E Hay players are to compete to claim their places in the zone tournaments.

At the senior level, Satomi Kondo and Woody Brown alongside Kylie Younghans and Landon Potter will compete in mixed doubles while Kristy Wade will try to advance in girls’ singles category.

At the intermediate level, Monica Gendre and Randy Hasenfratz will seek an opportunity to go further in mixed doubles, with Cole Nichols competing in boys’ singles class.

At the junior level: Claire Aspenes and Tyler Stewart will also be playing in mixed doubles.

Area tournaments were supposed to start Tuesday as the Independent went to print in Wainwright.

“Only first and second place winners of Tuesday’s competition in Wainwright will go on to zones,” said Langford.

It is not known when and where the zone tournaments will be organized.
