Atom tournament attracts 14 teams from all over province this weekend

Stettler’s four atom teams host a regional minor hockey tournament this weekend, promising a lot of exciting games.

There will be a total of 14 teams taking part in the tournament with the round robin games for local teams scheduled as follows:

Stettler Elks AA team - Friday, Jan. 21 at 5:15 p.m. vs Strathcona Warriors – Blue Rink

Stettler Woody Warriors A team - Saturday, Jan. 22 (Saturday) at 8:15 a.m. vs Delburne Outlaws - Blue Rink

Stettler Storm B team - Friday, Jan 21 at 7:15 p.m. vs Spruceview - Blue Rink

Stettler Elks B team - Friday, Jan. 21 at 6:45 p.m. vs Red Deer MGM Ford – Red Rink

Teams are coming from Lloydminster, Innisfail, Strathcona, Delburne, Camrose, Red Deer Overdoor, Red Deer, Spruceview, Sylvan Lake and Fort Saskatchewan to take part in the tournament.

One of the teams that will compete this weekend has already had a good weekend:

Atom AA Elks overpowered Eckville Atom Eagles 4 -2 on Saturday Jan. 15 and thrashed Innisfail Flyers 9-2 the next day.

Saturday’s goals were scored by Kameron Bainbridge, Adam Shirley (2), James Switenky.

On Sunday, Adam Shirley, Rhett Shingoose, Erik Rost, Austin Jacobson, Daylan Kuefler, Samuel Hamelin, James Switenky and Carter Van Esch put the numbers on the scoreboard.

The Stettler Elks remain undefeated in their regular league play. They have already entered provincials this year and are still waiting for the playdown schedule to be posted.

In other minor hockey action, Settler atom B lost heavily to Daysland Thunders at home on Sunday, Jan. 16 with a score of 12-6, with goals coming from Riley Cornelssen, Noah Smyth, Garrett Hogg, Isaac Lee (2) and Brendan Tucker.
