Stettler Community Gardens welcomes all to join work bee

I hope that everyone is seeing the Stettler Community Gardens start to grow nicely, now that we’ve had both some sun and a fair bit

Dear Editor:

I hope that everyone is seeing the Stettler Community Gardens start to grow nicely, now that we’ve had both some sun and a fair bit of rain.

Things are starting to be more green than brown now, with vegetables, flowers and a few weeds. We’ve nearly completed all of the expansion projects for this year, including the fruit bushes, flower borders, strawberry planters, information sign, etc. I hope that you can see how it has come together this spring.

One of the new things that we’ve started this summer is the addition of a monthly community work bee, or a chance for volunteers and gardeners to come down to the gardens to see what is happening and to pitch in and do some of the work in the common areas.

We’ll be weeding in the pathways, food bank garden plots and along the borders and doing a range of other tasks, depending on the month.

Anyone who would like a bit of help with your garden plot during one of the work bees is welcome to ask for help.

I invite everyone to come down on the third Thursday of every month, starting this Thursday at 6:30 p.m., to help out and to visit with your fellow gardeners and community residents. In all likelihood, we’ll be there no more than one hour.

Come on down, bring a friend (or at least tell one about it). If it’s raining heavily, we might not spend much time there, but the mulched pathways will allow us to work in light rain.
