Labour Day weekend too busy for rodeo to run without a hitch

In the Sept. 4 story in the Stettler Independent, Stettler Steel Wheel Stampede organizers said nothing else was going on in the area

Dear Editor:

In the Sept. 4 story in the Stettler Independent, Stettler Steel Wheel Stampede organizers said nothing else was going on in the area at the end of August, so the committee chose the Labour Day weekend for the stampede.

There have been slo-pitch ball tournaments at Content Bridge on the Labour Day weekend for many years, and another tournament at Gadsby for a lot of years.

The committee could have checked other places to determine possible schedule conflicts.

Also, the rodeo season is virtually finished by the Labour Day weekend.

A lot of competitors have gone back home and are finished for the season.

The third snag is that the Labour Day weekend is the last long weekend of the summer for campers, and a lot of them headed to the lakes and parks.
