With the current situation and subsequent rules, fundraising events have become more difficult to hold, but the local youth groups have come up with some different ways.

The Endmoor Minor Hockey Association is hosting an online 50/50 draw and tickets may be purchased until Dec. 10.

The jackpot is now more than $11,000, and tickets can be purchased at Rafflebox.ca.

Look for Endmoor Minor Hockey 50/50 Cash Raffle to purchase tickets and please note time is running out to purchase.

Byemoor 4-H Beef Club members are hosting an online auction fundraiser, with bidding closing on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.

Items may be donated or bid on up to that time by going to the Facebook page titled Byemoor Beef Auction Fundraiser 2021.

This event wraps up soon too so be sure to act quickly.

These are good opportunities to support the local youth groups without leaving the comfort of your home.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Olwin Pearson who passed away in Stettler on Nov. 29.

Olwin, 98, was a long-time resident of the Byemoor community before moving to Stettler.

She was the eldest of three children born to Albert and Connie Green.

She grew up on a farm west of Byemoor with siblings Bob and Dot.

Olwin and her late husband Ed Pearson raised two children, Barbara and Gary, on their farm at the base of Wolf Hill.

When Ed passed away Olwin moved into Byemoor where she was active in the community and particularly involved in the Farrell Lake Ladies group, the Byemoor Fair and Endmoor Drop-In Centre.

Olwin will long be remembered for her cheery personality.

Our thoughts are with her daughter Barbara Szapko, son Gary (Dolores) Pearson, her sister Dot Wasdal, her grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

For clarification, from last week’s column, Dwayne Grover received his induction into the Alberta 4-H Hall of Fame several years ago.

Sorry for the confusion.

Happy 87th Birthday wishes are sent to Gladys Groat on Dec. 4.

Hope you had a great day, Gladys.

Happy 80th Birthday greetings go out to Gordon (Tick) Walker on Dec. 10.

Enjoy your special milestone, Tick.

Christmas trivia —

“Eggnog is a signature beverage of the holiday season and has a history tracing back to medieval times. Originally it was made with sweetened, spiced milk curdled with ale or wine with the addition of eggs and figs and served hot.”

“Thomas Edison and his partner in the Edison Illumination Company, Edward Johnson are credited with inventing Christmas lights. Edison hung a strand of lights outside his New Jersey laboratory at Christmastime in 1880. Johnson wrapped a strand of hand-wired red, white and blue bulbs around his Christmas tree in 1882. And the rest they say is history.”
